Murata Manufacturing plans to start operation of a new multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) factory in Shimane Prefecture in June. Izumo Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture), a subsidiary of Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., invested approximately 12 billion yen to construct a new building at its Iwami Plant (Ota City, Shimane Prefecture). The new building will have four floors and a total floor area of 21,144 square meters. Although production capacity is not disclosed, Murata Manufacturing is increasing its MLCC production capacity by about 10% annually.
Demand for MLCCs for smartphones and personal computers is sluggish, but demand is expected to increase in the automotive and telecommunications markets over the medium to long term.
